What is Organisational Design?

Understanding the foundation before diving into the course

Organisational Design

The structure of your organisation: how roles, teams, and reporting lines are configured to deliver strategic objectives.

Organisational structure and hierarchy design

Role definition and span of control optimisation

Reporting lines and decision authority frameworks

Restructuring and reorganisation programmes

AI Enhancement:

AI analyses workload data, collaboration patterns, and skills distribution to recommend optimal structures, predict restructuring impacts, and identify efficiency opportunities.

Master Organisational Design for aligned, agile and high-performing organisations that thrive through change.

In today's complex, fast-shifting environment, effective organisation design is about far more than structure — it's about creating clarity, alignment and adaptability across strategy, people, systems and processes. This programme helps Leaders, Managers, HR and OD professionals design organisations that can evolve with purpose and respond intelligently to disruption.

You'll explore how to align business models, operating models and capabilities to deliver sustained performance — balancing stability with flexibility. The session also considers the growing role of AI and digital integration in reshaping work, decision-making and process efficiency, highlighting how intelligent design enables technology to enhance, not replace, human contribution.

Through practical frameworks, diagnostic tools and real-world case examples, participants learn how to connect strategic intent to day-to-day execution — designing organisations that are both resilient and ready for what comes next.

Exploring the Significant Concepts and Elements of Organisation Design

This section establishes the foundations of effective organisation design by exploring what defines a well-organised organisation. Participants learn to distinguish between organisation development and organisation design, and to understand the core components that enable best practice — creating the clarity and coherence needed for strategic alignment and sustained performance.

Introduction to LCC's Organisation Design Model©

Overview of the Organisation Design Model and Principles that underpin the Model

    Phase 1: Case for Change

This section focuses on defining the strategic need for redesign — clarifying business requirements, identifying key roles and sponsorship, developing a robust business case, and determining whether a redesign or alternative intervention will deliver the greatest organisational value.

    Phase 2: Organisational Assessment

This section guides participants through the core stages of organisation design — from defining the design framework and engaging stakeholders in data-driven assessment and analysis, to applying complexity theory, identifying OD trends, and developing practical consultation and communication plans for implementation.

    Phase 3: Designing the Structure

This section explores how to design an effective and efficient organisational structure — determining size, roles, and spans of control; aligning reward systems and people practices; managing risk; and creating high-level structural options, whilst integrating Business, AI & Digital processes to deliver on strategic goals.

Phase 4: Implementing the New Structure

This section explores how to plan and lead organisational change as a purposeful, human-centred journey. Participants examine the neuroscience of change to understand resistance and build engagement, while addressing the practical realities of implementing a new structure — from cultural alignment to leadership readiness. The focus is on leading transformation that connects people, process and purpose for lasting organisational impact.

    Phase 5: Evaluation and Review

This section highlights the value of ongoing review and evaluation in sustaining organisational effectiveness. Participants learn how to measure outcomes, assess alignment, and identify areas of tension within the design. Emphasis is placed on using evidence and feedback to refine structures, processes and culture — ensuring that organisational design remains dynamic, responsive and aligned with strategic intent.

    Real-Work Application Exercise

Learners will have the opportunity to apply the learning to real-work case studies, as well as working through their organisation's organisation restructuring to identify how they would approach a restructuring in the future.
